So, this weekend we went up to TMF Scott’s cabin in the woods. Some of us had been there before but I hadn’t been so I wasn’t sure what to expect. We got there around 10pm on Friday night and stayed until about 11am Today.

The driveway to the cabin is about a half mile long and it isn’t really a road. It is occasionally used for loggers. Or so I am told. Ryan slipped off the path with his truck in rear wheel drive and had to get out and lock his front hubs in order to crawl back onto the “road”. It’s fun in my old truck though. Lee bought it from me and so I got to take the 3 hour road trip up in my old baby.

On Friday night we drank. That’s really about it. I bought a new sleeping bag for this trip and when I pulled it out of the bag it came in and put it on the bed it seemed cool. I got in it and I was HOT AS FUCK! Quickly. The thing is great. It’s a mummy style bag. A keeper for sure.

Saturday morning I woke up, cooked everyone some bacon and scrambled eggs and then we all set off on a morning hike of sorts. We walked way down this hill, and then across the creek.

Ryan, Dennis, and Bryce all getting ready to cross a fallen tree over the creek.
Leegro gets accross first…
Keith! Don’t drop your camera!
The whole time we were all crossing Ryan was saying he wasn’t going to do it. In the end, he conquered his inner bitch and got over the water without falling in.

We wandered around and knocked over a ton of dead trees. Good old fashioned fun. I imagine Keith’s photo’s will turn out much much better than anything I shot with my crappy camera but hey, here’s something to show you what kind of time we had.

After coming back from our hike, we set up a bunch of targets in the adjacent field and had a little fun with Scott’s uncle’s 22′. Some of us can actually shoot. I haven’t shot a rifle since my grandpa used to take me hunting so this was a fun refresher. Us city boys aren’t necessarily used to having nothing else to do and a gun is just going to HAVE to get fired.

Lee gets off the first few shots.
You’d think that one of these boxes would be enough but no, thanks to Ryan and Mike mostly, we actually had to go to the store and buy ANOTHER box of 525 rounds. Lol.
So we ran out of bullets. Ok, Lee, Scott, Keith and I all decided to get more. We ended up going to a town where they sold them at the hardware store. The redheads were cute and the old dilapidated buildings were full of 20′s and 30′s era cars. Nice. On the way back up the driveway, Lee decided it was time to test the F150 so we took a detour down one of the logging paths and did some 4wheeling. Fucking fun.
This is what the “roads” looked like.
Lee – Having a gooooooood time with his new truck.
Then we came back to the cabin and I decided I wanted a turn. Mike and Ryan hopped in and when we came back the truck looked like this…
(Lee, I’m sorry about the fender trim. :(  )
More shooting ensues…
Keith gets in a couple of shots
Mike ended up proving to be quite the marksman and certainly spent more time with the gun than anyone else. Later on in the night, while everyone was drunk as could be and it was dark out, he snuck a small propane tank into the field, pulled out the rifle, and hit it with the first shot from the deck on the cabin. Quite the explosion. If the grass hadn’t been wet, we would have had a real problem with the fire spreading. One shot one kill. The bullet went into the tank and didn’t come out. BOOM!
Mike and Ryan spent a lot of time sighting targets with this telescope. Here is Bryce (Left) and Ryan (Right) manning the telescope trying to see what Mike was or wasn’t hitting at 200+ yards.

After the shooting was done for the most part, Lee made burgers for every one. It was getting dark. I got everyone a cigar and we all lit up. Most of us had been drinking since returning from the creek bed. More drinking. The burgers were delicious. We all hung out for a while, then had a hilariously failed game of pictionary before I and some of my tired friends retired to the bunks downstairs.

This morning I went upstairs early and Keith made breakfast. He made hashbrowns and blueberry pancakes. Delicious. After eating and doing a little bit of cleanup from the night before, I read Elle magazine with Dennis (both of us are in the clothing industry, what?)and then went back downstairs to clean up my stuff and pack it up. I come to find out that my new sleeping bag doesn’t come with a bag. So it’s just a loose sleeping bag in the back of the truck. That’s kinda lame.

We all cleaned up and made the place look unfucked then headed out. It was raining and the trails that were so fun to offroad on yesterday would have been AWESOME today but, no. We had to roll.

We came straight home with a stop for an anual photo op at a light house near Superior Wisconsin. Cold. Windy. Then home. It’s cold here too. I’m gonna jump in the shower.

My new boots! I went to the Army/Navy surplus store in search of some new boots. I ended up buying these Bates boots. They are SUPER comfy and after wearing them trekking around the woods at Scotts cabin for a weekend, I am sure in their toughness. Love em.

This is my hat. It’s from the “Tassy Crusher Collection” and no, I don’t have a clue what that means. I do know that it’s warm and it negates the need for sunglasses while outdoors on a bright day. Plus I look uber-American when I wear it. Awesome.
